MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
CLIENTS: CJ O’SHEA & GARDINER & THEOBALD
LOCATION: CENTRAL SHOREDITCH, LONDON
COMPLETION: PHASED HANDOVER FROM 2020
A major regeneration landmark, The Stage is a large mixed-use multi tower development comprising of a 38 storey residential tower, three commercial & retail buildings set to include luxury restaurants, bars and boutiques, a fitness & lifestyle club and premium office space, all interconnected by 1.1 aces of public piazzas. In 2011 the remains of Shakespeare’s Curtain Playhouse were discovered laying 3 metres below the development and the theatre has been incorporated at the centre of the design as ‘Building 7’, creating a visitor attraction and performing arts space. The Stage development is set to be the first World Heritage site in East London. Truly a landmark development.
Cahill Design Consultants are commissioned to support the Contractor, CJ O’Shea Limited, to offer full fire engineering support services to ensure all buildings within the development comply with the functional requirements of building regulations and other guidelines. This includes requirements for evacuation, internal layout of rooms, fire alarm systems, building separation, fire services access, stair numbers and locations, occupant numbers, code compliant dimensions and sizes, building fire rating and minimum protection requirements as well as guidance and assessment of proposed cladding systems to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines. Extensive CFD Modelling was also undertaken.
Cahill Design Consultants were also commissioned to support Gardiner & Theobald to offer specialist fire consultancy services to Building 7 for RIBA Stages 1-4. Building 7 comprises the reinstatement of Shakespeare’s Curtain Playhouse.
The construction phase for the development is well underway with the first buildings being handed over in coming weeks. This continues to be a great project to work on, with an incredible technical site and design team.
