CDC Thames Bridges Trek – Charity Challenge Highlights

18 Sep 24

This past Saturday (14 September 2024), we embarked on the Thames Bridges Trek, covering 25km and crossing 15 (Sadly the Millennium Bridge was closed so we couldn’t do the planned 16- but we made up distance!) of London’s most iconic bridges.

Starting bright and early at Bishop’s Park, the team gathered with a buzz of excitement in the air. We joined the warm-up stretches and soaked in the atmosphere before setting off on our trek. Our first milestone was Putney Bridge, and from there, we knew we were in for a day of unforgettable sights and experiences.

With the sun shining and the River Thames as our companion, we powered through each bridge, including Battersea, Albert, and Chelsea Bridge, as well as landmarks like Battersea Power Station, the iconic London Eye, and County Hall. Throughout, our team stayed connected with our supporters—Nicolas captured stunning moments on camera, while Teli kept everyone updated on our journey through social media.

About halfway through, after around 13km (8 miles), we took a much-needed break at The Kia Oval, where we recharged quickly before continuing. Although we were tempted by the Britain’s Got Talent auditions happening there, we resisted the urge to show off our talents and stayed focused on the trek!

The second leg took us over Lambeth Bridge, with views of Parliament Square, along Southbank, and across Blackfriars Bridge. The lively energy of Borough Market gave us a welcome boost around Southwark and London Bridge, and seeing Tower Bridge in the distance gave us the final push we needed. Our legs were sore, but our spirits were high, and after 25km, we crossed the finish line with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

We’re thrilled to announce that we raised over £1,700 for our two local charities, Colchester Food Bank and Colchester Phoenix Amateur Swimming Club! We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of everyone who donated and encouraged us along the way. Your generosity made this challenge all the more meaningful.

There’s still time to contribute if you haven’t yet! Head to our JustGiving page to help us continue making a difference: donate here.

Thank you again for all your support—what an unforgettable experience! 🙌
