Cahill Design Consultants (CDC) was commissioned by Mendick Waring Limited to offer full acoustic design and fire engineering services to this 650 key hotel development located at Heathrow, London. The proposed development is operated by IHG Hotels and incorporates two hotels under one roof, those being a Holiday Inn and a Staybridge Hotel. The six story building incorporates, guestrooms, food and beverage areas, fitness suite, guest services areas, a large atrium, in addition to the usual back of house spaces.
CDC was commissioned to support the project from RIBA stages 2-4 incorporating planning, concept, preliminary and detailed design stages, in addition to construction supervision and commissioning tests. The acoustic and fire safety designs were developed in accordance with IHG Brand Standard requirements in addition to Building Regulation requirements. CDC worked closely with the wider design team including architects, building services engineers, structural engineers, fire engineering and project managers to ensure that the acoustic design requirements were effectively incorporated into the design proposals.
The large volume six storey atrium was digitally modelled for both CFD and Acoustic performance to ensure that an appropriate environment was designed and the building was able to comply with Building Regulations for smoke extraction. This included the addition of absorbing elements to the walls of the atrium. And fire rating of the glazing overlooking the atrium.
